Is There A Smoking Area At East Midlands Airport?
This is the most up to date information on the “smoking area” at East Midlands Airport. It was earlier thought that this area had not been designated as a smoking area, but this has since been changed. If you are a smoker you will no doubt be very upset about this latest development at East Midlands Airport.
So, what is there to complain about? Well, firstly the long term effects of second hand smoke can be devastating. In fact, the effects of even short term exposure to cigarette smoke is said to be very damaging to humans. People who have been smoking for even less than a year have a much higher chance of suffering from cancer. The effects can be quite devastating on the smoker’s family as well. So what is there to do about it?
There used to be an area around the departure and arrival area at the airport which was strictly off limits to non-smokers. However, this was later changed to an “in case of emergency” area. This meant that not only did you have to leave your car but you also had to make your way through the airport and ring your service to get a cab if you were uncomfortable using public transport. Whilst this still makes driving during and after a flight a little more safe, it may have been a step in the right direction to discourage people from smoking even more.
There are now however, no smoking areas at the airport. However, this policy does not apply to passengers. You can take the bins with you if you so wish, and nobody is going to stop you. However, you are probably going to have to pay a little bit more to enjoy these facilities. Of course, this is just a minor gripe, and we suppose we should be thankful for any measures taken to discourage people from lighting up as they approach the airport.
Another major problem is that many airlines now have a no smoking policy. It is actually illegal in many countries to be a smoker. This is enforced by law, and it is not permissible to smoke anywhere within the airline’s premises. However, if you are traveling with your cigarette lit, it can look very unfashionable and you may find it difficult to carry on. Many airlines now provide replacement cigarettes for customers who need them, so you don’t have to worry too much about having no smoking permitted where you travel.
Another consideration for travellers is the health risks associated with second hand smoking. As it is impossible to ban smoking from occurring, many hotels and restaurants have gone ahead and did away with smoking areas. This means that you have to reach the smokers area before you are allowed to enter. This can cause problems particularly if it is in a busy part of town where many people go to eat. Many restaurants in town will have small smoking areas outside of the main ones, but that does not always work.
Many hotels have gone on to provide smoking areas outside of the room where the guests are staying. In some cases they charge a small fee for the use of these facilities. The hotels normally do this in an attempt to attract customers who wish to take part in the act of smoking. There is nothing to stop customers in the area taking part in other activities, so the place to go is the internet where there is a lot of information available about the various places in town where smoking is prohibited.
For those that wish to take this further there is always the alternative of buying cigarettes at the airport. Of course this can be a problem because you cannot expect every hotel to sell cigarettes. However if you are willing to spend a little bit of money and make certain that you are in the area when you buy your cigarettes, then you should find it easy to stick to your plan to quit smoking. You should also be aware that if you do use your credit card at the terminal to buy cigarettes you will get charged more by the staff for using a credit card. That being said you should give it a try as it might turn out that you enjoy smoking and that your life in East Midlands Airport is happier as a result.
